In 2021 we brought a herd of 6 adult goats and two lambs to the farm. This was the start of our future herd of around 40 dairy goats!

Grazing

Our herd goes out to pasture every day, for which we have around 12 hectares of grassland at our disposal. The goats are of course always happy to get out, except on bad weather days, because they don’t like rain at all and they show us that clearly. Then they stay in their large open barn and enjoy an extra portion of hay.

The herd gets a new piece of pasture every day, for the following reasons:

  • fresh, nutrient-rich grass to keep the goats healthy
  • extensive use of the pastureland so that other animals can also use the land and also the grasses and herbs can recover
  • parasite control

We have various grassland areas with different herbs and grasses. We then decide, depending on the season and the condition of the goats, which grasses they most urgently need.

How do we milk the goats?

We milk our goats from spring to autumn before they have a rest over the winter. We milk by hand because we then have closer contact with the goats, which is important to us.  Not all goats are pregnant every year, but we decide this depending on the health of the mother, depending on when they last had children and also depending on how much milk they produce. We leave the baby goats with their mothers for a long time so that they have the best possible start to their goat life.

Our cheese dairy

At the end of 2024, our container cheese dairy was finally delivered!  We decided on this method due to the difficult building situation on site. The container came as a fully certified cheese dairy, is tailored exactly to our needs and at the same time meets the prescribed hygiene and safety standards.

This container project was only possible thanks to the financial support and trust. Thank you again for that!
